Pubblicato nel marzo del 1974, l'album fu il primo della band per Decca Records (con l'imprinting Deram) e contiene alcuni dei loro lavori più amati, come “Nimorodel / The Procession / The White Rider”, “Freefall” e “Lady Fantasy”. Sebbene non sia entrato in classifica nel Regno Unito al momento dell'uscita, ha sfondato nella classifica Billboard degli Stati Uniti. Mirage consacrò i Camel come una delle migliori band britanniche di rock progressivo e aprì la strada al loro futuro successo. In seguito, l'album è stato definito dalla rivista Rolling Stone uno dei 50 album progressive rock più importanti di tutti i tempi. Questa versione a tre dischi, 2CD e Blu-ray multiregione, contiene il mix originale dell'album rimasterizzato da Ben Wiseman, insieme ai mix stereo e surround 5.1 di Stephen W Tayler e a sette bonus track registrate nel 1973 e durante le sessioni dell'album e include un libretto illustrato con un saggio.
