Pubblicato nell'aprile del 1976, l'album entrò nella top 20 nel Regno Unito e in Europa e fu un successo negli Stati Uniti, dopo il successo dell'album Music inspired by The Snow Goose dell'anno precedente. L'album conteneva brani classici come “Lunar Sea”, “Air Born”, “Another Night” e “Spirit of the Water” e rimane uno dei lavori più acclamati della band, presente nella top 40 dei “Cosmic rock album” della rivista Mojo e nella classifica dei migliori album della rivista Prog. Questa versione a tre dischi, 2CD e Blu-ray multiregione, presenta il mix originale dell'album rimasterizzato da Ben Wiseman, insieme ai mix 5.1 surround e stereo di Stephen W Tayler e quattro tracce bonus, tratte dalle sessioni demo dell'album e dalla versione singola di “Another Night”. Il Blu-ray contiene inoltre il video del concerto Camel Live at Hammersmith Odeon dell'aprile 1976. Questa nuova edizione di Moonmadness include anche un libretto illustrato con un saggio.
